MaddJax, Book Two:
I was thankful Jaxon hadn’t grabbed one of those ridiculous name tags at the door with his yearbook photo on it. That would have blown his story for sure. Likely, he’d thought of that ahead.
Annoyed, Jaxon ignored their remarks and swept me away, his hand still laced with mine and held on my lower back. It was undeniable, the sparks at his touch. Everywhere his skin came in contact with mine. Even his side a few inches from mine elicited a reaction. I wasn’t happy about that…
Well…torn. That’s what I was. Happy to at last see Jax, but pissed that he was only now waltzing back into my life, after all this time. Ambushing me in the middle of a large gathering.
I waited just long enough to ensure that we were out of earshot from the girls, to lay into him. “What the heck was that? Have you lost your mind?! Now those gossipy ninnies think you are my boyfriend.”
“Good.” He pulled me to the dance floor. “And hello to you too, sweet cheeks.”
Good? What? “Have you forgotten you are my brother?”
“Step!” Jaxon snarled in correction. “Stepbrother.” He towed me ahead, our bodies forcibly parting a path between the other few dancers.
“Still. Same difference,” I spat. “They’ll remember.”
He didn’t seem to care. Just spun me into his arms and pulled me in for a dance.
I wished my betraying body didn’t like it so much, melding to him like it belonged there. Like a heat-seeking missile.
A spark of desire flickered through me, spreading tingles about my insides.
I was so totally screwed.
